FOOD ALLERGY ALERT

I am allergic to Peanuts, Tree Nuts.

Even a small amount or cross-contact can cause a serious reaction.

Cross-Contact

Please still use care with shared utensils, surfaces, cookware, and fryer oil.

Please check ingredients, sauces, oils, marinades, garnishes, and cooking methods.

If this cannot be prepared safely, please tell me.

Please show this card to the kitchen. Thank you.

What a good allergy card says

Servers are busy, so a card has to make sense in a few seconds. Lead with the allergens in plain words: "peanuts", not "legumes". Say how serious it is, because in some kitchens "allergy" still sounds like a preference.

Then say what the kitchen should do: check the sauces and oils, keep shared pans and fryers away from your food, and tell you if they can't make the dish safely. That last line matters most. It lets staff say no instead of guessing.

This card covers all of it. Keep one in your wallet and one on your phone, and hand it over when you order, not after the food arrives.

How to use it

  1. Print it on plain paper, or copy the text into your phone's notes.
  2. Hand it to the server before you order and ask them to show it to the kitchen.
  3. Travelling? Translate it before you go: the kitchen needs to read it in its own language.
